PUBLIC ART
These are some of the sculptures I have made that now live in public spaces where they can be seen and touched by everyone. Some were commissioned by individuals, some by public agencies. All are my personal gifts to my community. Spanning 30 years, they are listed from most recent to oldest.

CAMP BROTHERHOOD DOVE
After 22 inspiring carving symposia at this wonderful spiritual retreat center, I have found a way to thank Father Treacy and Rabbi Levine, for their vision of loving humanity, and donated this little white marble Dove. It perches on a boulder that is a continually flowing fountain, next to the gazebo outside the Interfaith Chapel.

Tom's Totem
We just installed this sculpture at Peace Health Hospital's new Cancer Care Center in Bellingham. It is a stack of 4 granite figures, perched on a basalt base, about 7 ft tall. I am not sure what it all means, but it was fun to carve and assemble. Designed by Bellingham painter and printmaker Tom Wood, and commissioned by Lucia Douglas Gallery proprietor Linda Gardner. |

ETERNAL EMBRACE This granite carving is life size - 6 ft high, 2 ft wide and deep. It stands in the Healing Garden outside the Chemo Room, at Skagit Valley Hospital's Cancer Care Facility, Mount Vernon WA. It was commissioned by my long time friend Dick Fallis, to honor his wife Bernice, who passed away in 2005. He donated it to the hospital in gratitude for the excellent care she had received here in her final year. The bronze plaque reads: "Although cancer may seem to rob us of our Loved One, The Embrace, remembered, will keep that Loved One in our hearts Forever." |

JASPER GATES AND JOHN KNOX
Commissioned in 2005 by Skagit County Historian Dick Fallis, and funded jointly by the State of Washington, City of Mount Vernon, Gates family members, and Mount Vernon Schools elementary students. Carved of a 7 ton block of granite, the image came from a 1905 photo of Jasper and his grandson carrying buckets of vegetables out of the family garden, here at this location, now the corner of First and Gates Streets, downtown Mount Vernon WA. The statue memorializes a prominent founder of the city, and has become a welcomed permanent reminder of the history of this town, and surrounding Skagit County.

SAMISH TOTEM POLES
Two 15 ft tall cedar poles, for the Samish Indian Nation's administration offices in Anacortes WA, 2001. The tribal icons, including both images of the Maiden of Deception Pass at the bottom, were chosen by Samish elders, and all were carved in the traditional Coast Salish style I was taught 20 years before. The relief carving on the 10 ft wide cedar sign below depicts a Samish family arriving home from a canoe voyage.
